AI ACCOUNTABILITY
Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that can help people engage with Scripture more deeply. But tools require wisdom. AI can illuminate biblical truth or spread confusion, depending on how it's designed and deployed.
We believe AI can serve the Church by making scholarly resources accessible, surfacing relevant cross-references, and helping people ask better questions. But we also know AI can hallucinate, oversimplify, or reflect the biases in its training data.
That's why Veritas is built around citations, clear limits, correction, and accountability to the Church.
Instead of relying solely on what a language model “knows” from training, we use Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG):
Store a curated knowledge base of trusted resources (commentaries, lexicons, theological works)
When you ask a question, we search this knowledge base for relevant information
We feed those specific sources to the AI along with your question
The AI generates a response grounded in those sources
We show you the sources so you can verify the answer
This approach dramatically reduces hallucinations and ensures every claim can be traced back to a real, citable resource.
HOW WE KEEP AI ACCOUNTABLE
Good tools need honest limits. These practices help keep Veritas useful, checkable, and accountable.
Every AI-generated explanation includes citations. You can click through to see the exact commentaries, lexicons, or articles the response is based on.
When evidence is strong, we say so. When a question is contested or uncertain, we mark it clearly instead of faking certainty.
We track which AI model and knowledge base version generated each response. If we discover an error, we can identify and correct affected answers.
When the evidence is thin or Christians disagree in good faith, we say so. We don't pretend to have certainty where none exists.
Veritas provides information and context, but it doesn't make decisions for you. For questions of conscience and application, we point you to Scripture, prayer, and your local church.
For personal counsel, crisis, church discipline, or major life decisions, Veritas points you toward Scripture, prayer, and trusted leaders in your local church.
On secondary and tertiary matters, we present multiple faithful interpretations rather than insisting on one. Our goal is to help you think biblically, not to enforce a particular denominational view.
This is new territory for the Church. We're committed to learning, iterating, and listening. Some things we're actively working on:
Improving citation accuracy and reducing hallucinations
Expanding our knowledge base to include more diverse theological perspectives
Building better mechanisms for community feedback and correction
Developing tools for pastors to review and customize content for their congregations
Studying how AI affects spiritual formation and discipleship

We believe that technology for the Church must be built by the Church and accountable to the Church.

Our hope is that AI, wisely deployed, can serve this unity — helping believers engage Scripture faithfully, wrestle with truth humbly, and worship God wholeheartedly.
